Svit Sešlar – CAM – Celje

I have mentioned Svit Sešlar before, and he remains a player I find difficult to leave out. If we are looking for someone who can add creativity and a goal threat between midfield and attack, there is plenty to like.
At 6ft 1in, he has more size than you might expect from that description. He came through several Slovenian youth setups before establishing himself at Olimpija Ljubljana, moving to Eyüpspor in Turkey and subsequently returning to Slovenia with Celje. His experience includes senior international football and European competition, making him a rather different proposition from a teenager taking his first steps in the game.
Celje credited him with 11 goals and seven assists in 20 appearances across all competitions during the second half of last season. That is a serious contribution, and his wider numbers support the picture of a player involved in creating as well as finishing, with the supplied data showing 47.37 passes per 90 minutes at 79.6% accuracy.
There is a fairly obvious catch, because Celje have little reason to make him cheap. He has helped them win silverware, has already experienced a move abroad and would be coming from a club that knows exactly what he can offer. I would expect a substantial fee, rather than treating the Slovenian league as a guarantee of a bargain.
He is also 24, turning 25 in January, which puts him outside the current ESC age criteria. Any move would therefore need to work through the usual GBE process, but I still think he merits a place in the wider conversation about overseas players who could improve us.
