12 Things Lincoln City Fans Will Never See At Sincil Bank Again

5. A controversial press conference

A pre-match press conference is handy when you want to know who’s fit, but it’s rarely where you’ll get anything that puts a bit of needle into Saturday. Clubs are careful about what goes out, and you can see why. Who wants to give the opposition a line they can pin up on the dressing-room wall?

There was a time when the Echo would ring the manager and come away with something worth arguing about before a ball had been kicked. I think of Keith Alexander and Brian Laws, or Colin Murphy and Dario Gradi and the arguments about how football ought to be played.

George Kerr could come out with something that made you want to read the rest of the piece, and even more recently there was a bit of an edge to Danny Cowley against Steve Evans or Michael Appleton against Joey Barton. These days, if there’s going to be a row, we’ll probably have to wait until the game starts.
