12 Things Lincoln City Fans Will Never See At Sincil Bank Again

8. The bloke with the transistor radio

There was always a bloke in an anorak with a transistor pressed to his ear at the Bank. You could hear it a few places away, especially on the days when there were plenty of empty spaces between you. The ones I remember weren’t always particularly forthcoming with the scores, which was a bit of a nuisance when the next best thing was waiting for the half-time announcements.

Think back to Brighton at home on the last day of 1997/98. We needed to win, and we needed Leyton Orient to do us a favour against Torquay United. A murmur would start in one corner, where somebody with a radio had heard something, and you could almost follow the news as it travelled around the ground until everybody knew what had happened and could start singing.

Now half the stand has the score on a phone within seconds. In fact, some days, I think I hear mutterings of a goal before it’s even been scored! I usually the games up on my screen too, but on an afternoon like that, the bloke with the radio was a legend.
