12 Things Lincoln City Fans Will Never See At Sincil Bank Again

9. The starting XI wearing numbers one to 11

In my head, two was the right-back, three was the left-back, four and five were the centre-halves, six and eight were in midfield, seven and 11 were out wide and nine and ten were up front. Somebody will tell me four was a midfielder and they’re welcome to, because half the fun of this is finding out what everyone else thought the numbers meant. You might even find a player wearing a different shirt from the previous week to give the opposition something to think about. In 1991/92, Tony Lormor wore 10 every week except once, against Hereford in September, when he wore 11. Odd.

These days, Sonny Bradley can captain the side in 15 and Mikkel Ladefoged can lead the line in 11. With squad numbers, you see a seven and know it’s Reeco Hackett. I quite liked looking out and asking who was wearing seven today, but I’d wager for commentators and journalists alike, it would be a bit of a pain!
