6. A matchday programme and a ticket stub
I’ve still got the programme from my first game. There was a time when you’d buy one to find out what was going on at the club, but by the time we could get most of that on our phones, the regular buyers were increasingly people who wanted something to keep. Sales fell, and the EFL’s requirements around adverts and content made it harder to put out the slim little magazine that would have done the job.
There’s still the ImpPress magazine for those who like something to collect, but I miss being able to buy a programme for that particular afternoon, even if I stopped buying in the final season. Ticket stubs have gone much the same way at home, although you do still get the odd one on an away trip. You can get a keepsake stub made for a game now, which tells you there’s still something in having a little bit of paper you can pull out years later and say, ‘I was there.’
If you’re after one, visit Matchday Stubs to build a keepsake from your first game. Use the code STACEYWEST15 for 15% off. They’d make a lovely Christmas gift!
