The Imps were reported to have made initial contact with IF Elfsborg over Ibrahim Buhari in May, with Portsmouth, Cardiff City and Kasimpasa also named among the interested clubs. The 24-year-old Nigerian centre-back had entered the final months of his contract in Sweden and appeared to fit the profile of a potential summer recruit, combining age, physical presence and experience in European competition. Buhari joined Elfsborg from Plateau United in 2022 and went on to establish himself in the Swedish top flight, while also featuring in the Europa League.
Any prospect of a move to Sincil Bank has now ended after Buhari completed a transfer to FK Austria Wien on July 8. The defender has signed a three-year contract with the Austrian Bundesliga side, running until the summer of 2029, after bringing his four-year spell with Elfsborg to a close.
