Archie Collins
Sports Boom (again) claimed in May that we had opened talks with Archie Collins following his release by Peterborough United, even suggesting then-boss Michael Skubala was a strong admirer of the midfielder. Collins was at least a more believable target than some of the outlet’s other supposed Imps links, having made 159 appearances for Peterborough and contributed two goals and seven assists last season. However, the source had already connected us with Jake Batty, Aaron Drinan and Shaun Hutchinson, among others, so there was little reason to treat the report as anything more than speculation.
The latest reports have named seven clubs in the race to sign the 26-year-old, and we are not one of them. Championship sides Millwall, Portsmouth and Watford are said to be interested, alongside Huddersfield Town, Oxford United, Reading and Sheffield Wednesday. Collins remains a free agent after his Peterborough contract expired, but the complete absence of the Imps from more recent coverage adds further weight to the idea that the original Sports Boom claim had little substance.
