The same outlet had previously linked us with Dael Fry, a rumour that went nowhere before the defender joined Birmingham City, and its record on Imps transfer stories has hardly inspired confidence. Allen’s profile at least made more sense than Fry’s, with the 31-year-old bringing extensive Championship experience after seven years at Coventry, but there was never anything beyond the initial claim to suggest City had made a serious approach.
Allen remained available after leaving Coventry, where he made 200 appearances in all competitions and helped the club win promotion from League One before establishing themselves in the Championship. His experience and availability meant he was an easy name to connect with a newly promoted side looking to add second-tier know-how, but no reliable follow-up emerged to support the Sports Boom story. Given the source and the fate of its Fry report, this always looked more like a speculative link than evidence of genuine interest from the Imps.
