Ollie Palmer

I might be alone in this one. Some people call him a cult hero, but it is easy to mishear….
Palmer arrived at City in 2017 after working his way up from non-league, and I still remember the sight of this enormous bloke ducking under the door frame as he came in to sign. He scored 11 times in 57 appearances and helped us win the EFL Trophy, but he was never an automatic starter and memorably complained it was easier to ‘fold a crisp’ than get into the side.
Palmer was ungainly, unpredictable and sometimes seemed as unsure as the crowd about what he was going to do next, but there was always something effective about him. After leaving for Crawley, he enjoyed his best years elsewhere, particularly at Wrexham, where his goals and physical presence helped them climb from the National League to the Championship before he joined Swindon in 2025. He even cropped up in Deadpool & Wolverine, although I have checked carefully and there wasn’t a folded crisp in sight.
