Lenell John-Lewis was given his City debut by John Schofield in an FA Cup defeat at Port Vale in 2006, and for several years looked like he might develop into a useful Football League striker. He was quick, powerful and awkward for defenders, but never really put all of those attributes together consistently, scoring just nine times in 81 appearances in all competitions before leaving in 2010 by mutual consent.

What surprised me was how well his career developed after leaving Sincil Bank, with John-Lewis going on to play regularly for Bury, Grimsby, Newport and Shrewsbury. He was particularly effective at Grimsby, scoring 16 league goals in 2014/15 and giving them an early lead in the play-off final against Bristol Rovers, before later helping York City win promotion from National League North. He is still going now, playing for Boston United, which represents a remarkably durable career for someone who never really looked like fulfilling his potential with the Imps.
