12 – George Wickens
Loan spells at Wealdstone and Ross County provided George Wickens with senior experience while he was developing at Fulham, including a double penalty save against Celtic during his time in Scotland. We agreed an undisclosed compensation payment with Fulham to bring him to Lincoln in July 2024 on a four-year contract. It’s believed we paid around £200,000 for his services, and he had big shoes to fill Lukas Jensen moved on for a significant fee, and George was the next investment.
In our 2025/26 title-winning season, he kept 19 league clean sheets to share the Golden Glove, earned a place in the League One Team of the Season and supplied four assists, before signing a new deal running to 2029 with a further year’s option. He’s still here, as you know, and even if he didn’t move on for any fee, you could say we have our money’s worth. He’s still young; 24 is no age for a keeper, and he’s impressing in the Championship.
I think signing a keeper can be tough, and given the list of players we’d borrowed before: Carl Rushworth and Alex Plamer being two, signing a player who feels comparable is a big ask.
