We’ve had a project player or two, but we weren’t known for it in the summer of 2020. While in lockdown, I did have my interest piqued by rumours linking us to Kevin O’Hara, a lower league Scottish striker.
What you need to bear in mind is this was the summer we signed Brennan Johnson, and had players like Jorge Grant, Tom Hopper and Anthony Scully around the attack. We weren’t looking for projects during the 2020/21 summer, we were looking for a promotion-capable squad.
In fairness, the links to O’Hara came at the same time as Theo Archibald, who we did sign, but hindsight has made them look a little foolish. O’Hara didn’t come to England – he has since been with Dunfermline and Hamilton north of the border. He has a decent return of 38 league goals from 158 league appearances, bouncing between the Scottish second the third tiers.
