Barnsley welcomed us as they were flying high in fourth and with one of the strongest home records in the division, yet City tore into them from the first whistle and never relented.

City’s 5-1 win was built on control and ruthlessness at key moments. Joe Taylor opened the scoring after 15 minutes, finishing smartly after Lasse Sorensen squared across the face of goal. That early strike settled the contest and ensured Barnsley were chasing the game. The hosts had their moments, but City carried the greater threat and turned their territorial pressure into a decisive second just after the hour, substitute Jack Moylan weaving through defenders before slotting home to double the lead.

What followed was a devastating spell that killed the contest. Josh Earl’s loose pass was seized upon by Daniel Mandroiu, who drove into the area and made it 3-0, before Moylan struck again from 25 yards with a superb effort into the bottom corner. Adam Phillips reduced the arrears with 13 minutes remaining, but any hope of a fightback was extinguished almost immediately as Jovon Makama added a fifth. The final scoreline reflected a side confident in transition, clinical in front of goal and utterly unflustered by a brief Barnsley response.
