City’s 5-0 dismantling of Bristol Rovers was one of those afternoons where everything aligned, a performance built on control, incision and ruthless finishing. From the outset, the Imps looked sharper, more aggressive in their pressing and far more fluid in the final third, with the switch in shape allowing Makama and Hackett to thrive in advanced roles. Chances came early and often, Jed Ward called into action before the breakthrough finally arrived on 31 minutes. Paudie’s precise clearance released Makama wide, and from a tight angle he thundered an effort into the roof of the net to set the tone for what followed.

The second half transformed dominance into a rout. Bayliss made it 2-0 with a corner that drifted straight in, Collins added a sublime third after Makama’s driving run forced a defensive scramble, and from there the afternoon belonged to Jovon. He shrugged off his marker to fire home a fourth, then completed his hat trick from close range after another set piece was only half cleared. Five goals, 11 shots on target and wave after wave of red and white attacks told the story of a side playing with confidence and clarity, delivering one of the most complete displays of the Skubala era.
