16/08/2025, Lincoln City 3-2 Plymouth Argyle, 3.01
City’s 3-2 victory over Plymouth was breathless from the first whistle, a game that swung wildly but showcased just how potent the Imps can be in full flow. After early pressure from the visitors, Bayliss struck first, drilling low into the corner to settle nerves, and the Imps controlled much of the first half through relentless pressing and clever movement from Draper and Collins. Wickens was called into action, but the lead felt deserved at the break, with City sharper in possession and more purposeful in the final third.
The second half exploded. Collins reacted quickest to a saved header to make it 2-0, then calmly dispatched a penalty for 3-0 just minutes later, seemingly putting the contest beyond doubt. Instead, defensive lapses and Plymouth’s quality sparked chaos as Oseni and Amaechi struck in quick succession to reduce it to 3-2, setting up a frantic finale. A controversial second yellow for Wiredu halted Argyle’s momentum, and City clung on through a nervy closing spell. It was far from serene, but across the 90 minutes the Imps created more, scored three and earned the points in one of the era’s most dramatic encounters.
