Ibrahim Buhari – Not Possible
One player we have reportedly made initial contact with is IF Elfsborg defender Ibrahim Buhari, who is potentially available this summer.
The Nigerian centre-back is also said to have attracted interest from Portsmouth, Cardiff City and Turkish side Kasimpasa, with his current deal in Sweden running until the end of the Allsvenskan season.
Buhari is a 6ft 3in right-footed centre-back currently playing for IF Elfsborg, having joined the Swedish club from Plateau United in September 2022. He had been a regular in Nigeria’s top flight before the move, scoring six goals in 38 matches during his second season as Plateau finished second in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
Since moving to Sweden, the 24-year-old has built up senior and European experience, including minutes in the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League. He has also been involved internationally, receiving a senior Nigeria call-up in May 2022 before later being selected for Nigeria Under-23 duty during qualification for the 2024 Olympics.
His age, physical profile, contract situation and reported Championship interest make him one to note, although initial contact does not always lead to a formal move.
It’s also worth noting that an Elfsborg fansite do seem to believe he’ll be moving on this season, but that he is ‘redundant’ in a 4-2-3-1 formation, not unlike our own. However, as with Sarić, Buhari is over 23 and therefore would not qualify for an ESC slot.
