Eight Forgotten Lincoln City Loan Signings: Where Are They Now?

James Dudgeon

On loan: 2000/01, joined 22 November 2000
Parent club: Barnsley

One for the Dads! James Dudgeon joined us from Barnsley as a teenage defender and made 22 league appearances during the 2000/01 season, scoring three goals. One of those was a late winner against Plymouth Argyle that helped secure our Football League survival. Although born in Newcastle, he also represented Scotland at youth level.

He was sent off twice, in consecutive games, but I really liked him. He looked big, strong and mobile, and I figured he’d go on to have a good career. I didn’t think we could afford to buy him, which said it all, but he didn’t break through for the Tykes, and was released.

After leaving Barnsley in 2003, Dudgeon built a lengthy non-league career with clubs including Scarborough, Halifax Town, Worksop Town, York City and Gainsborough Trinity. He later moved into coaching, working at Goole, Frickley Athletic and Wombwell Town. His most recently documented appointment was as an assistant manager at Dodworth Miners Welfare in September 2021, although his continued involvement there in 2026 has not been independently confirmed.
