The transfer window for Championship clubs has now closed, meaning any free agents currently without a deal will be relying on League One to provide them with salvation.
Whilst very little is moving in terms of transfers right now, as we count down towards September 2nd there is likely to be plenty of action.
Danny has been very vocal about not having a huge budget left, it’s clear to see in the squad where investment has taken place. However, with the Everton tie a bonus we didn’t budget for, football fortune has once again shone a light on the Imps.
We’ve played the free agent market very well in the past. Jason Shackell joined last summer and is perhaps one of the best central defenders at this level, certainly in terms of experience. Going back a little further we plucked Neal Eardley from the free agent list as well and, like Shackell, he’s a competent League One defender.
With a little money to invest, not a lot, Danny will surely be hoping to add to his ranks over the coming weeks. He suggested perhaps three players in an ideal world, with cover at full back one priority, probably a winger and a central defender too. If he can combine one of those (winger and full back), he might even be tempted with a striker.
I’ve compiled a list of some free agents currently without a club; please do remember it’s just for fun. There isn’t a suggestion we’ll land these players, but they’re all out there, without a club and ready to sign on for someone.
If they look a little far-fetched, remember last year around this time we signed Jason Shackell.
