Ten Free Agents That Might Interest Lincoln City In The Championship

Jamie Allen

Experience, that’s what this one is about. Jamie Allen has forged an impressive Football League career through consistency and energy rather than headlines, coming through Rochdale’s academy before establishing himself in League One and the Championship with Burton Albion and Coventry City. He joined the Sky Blues in 2019 and became an important figure during their rise under Mark Robins, helping the club win promotion from League One before going on to make more than 170 appearances in the Championship. Allen’s relentless work-rate and versatility across midfield have made him a trusted squad player throughout Coventry’s recent success, including their 2025/26 Championship-winning campaign, although it was confirmed this summer that he would leave the club at the expiry of his contract.

Allen’s 2025/26 season was largely spent in a rotational midfield role, but his underlying numbers remained strong whenever called upon. He averaged an outstanding 90 per cent pass completion rate from 37 passes per 90, alongside more than five recoveries per game and a duel success rate above 50 per cent. His standout display came in the 3-1 win against Watford in October, where he scored, completed 98 per cent of his passes and won six of his nine duels, while he also contributed an assist during the emphatic 5-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Although not a prolific attacking midfielder, Allen’s intelligence in possession and ability to maintain tempo continued to make him an effective Championship operator, especially for a side looking to acclimatise to the level.
