Archie Collins
Archie Collins was linked with us right back in May after his release by Peterborough United, with Sports Boom claiming talks had already taken place. On paper, it wasn’t the most ridiculous rumour we’ve had this summer. He’s 26, has plenty of League One experience and made 159 appearances during three seasons with Peterborough, having previously come through the system at Exeter City.
However, nothing has happened since to make me think there was much in it. Collins was subsequently linked with Millwall, Portsmouth, Watford, Huddersfield Town, Oxford United, Reading and Sheffield Wednesday, while he has also been training with Exeter City as he waits for his next move. That isn’t believed to be with the Grecians either, with Matt Taylor saying he was simply there to keep himself fit and put himself “on show”. Taylor is currently back in charge at Exeter following his return earlier this year.
If we really had opened talks three months ago, I can’t see why Collins would still be without a club now while we continue to strengthen elsewhere. I suspect this was another Sports Boom story that had little, if any, substance behind it.
