Jamie Allen
Jamie Allen’s name cropped up in connection with City following his release by Coventry City, with Sports Boom claiming the Imps were considering a move for the experienced midfielder. There were reasons the link looked plausible on the surface. Allen had spent seven seasons with Coventry, accumulated extensive Championship experience and was available without a transfer fee, all of which made him an obvious player to associate with a newly promoted side.
Even so, the report always needed treating cautiously. The same source had previously put City alongside Dael Fry, while a number of its other Imps stories have failed to develop into anything substantial. Allen left Coventry having made 200 appearances in all competitions and played his part in their rise from League One, but there was never any meaningful follow-up to the original claim that City were pursuing him. As things stood, it looked far more like a convenient piece of transfer speculation than evidence of a deal taking shape.
