12: Charley Kendall
Charley Kendall spent five years in the Queens Park Rangers academy but left without making a senior appearance for the Championship club. His first-team breakthrough came on loan at Eastbourne Borough, where five goals in 15 league matches earned him a permanent move following his release from QPR. He then scored 11 times in 16 league appearances for Eastbourne before agreeing a move to Lincoln, remaining with his hometown club on loan for the rest of that season.
‘Cherley Kendall scores goals’. That’s what everyone said, and I think this is a case of the higher we build them up, the harder the fall. Charley was a non-league striker who scored in the National League South, and we expected that (as fans) to transfer to League One. It didn’t. Some might say he didn’t get a chance, but his career after City suggests maybe we were right.
After leaving Lincoln permanently, Kendall joined Woking and scored seven league goals before moving to Southend United later in 2024. After 16 goals in 67 outings, including some in their FA Trophy win, he was sold to Worthing.
