11: Jacob Davenport

Jacob Davenport was developed by Manchester City and made his senior breakthrough during a Championship loan with Burton Albion, playing 17 league matches and scoring once. Blackburn Rovers paid to sign him in 2018, but injuries severely disrupted his first two seasons at Ewood Park and restricted his opportunities. He eventually made 36 appearances for Blackburn across all competitions, scoring a late Championship equaliser against Brentford, before being released at the end of his contract.

Is it harsh to pick a player coming back from a major injury, who only signed a short-term deal? Maybe, yes. This is quite personal, because I championed him. I identified him as a top free agent before we signed him, and I felt we’d got a natural successor to Liam Bridcutt, only for him to clearly be a shadow of the player Blackburn Rovers paid for.

Short spells with Stockport County and Morecambe followed his departure from Lincoln, with Davenport playing regularly during his season at the latter. He moved into Irish football with Derry City in 2024.
