15: Joan Luque
Joan Luque spent part of his youth career with Barcelona before progressing through several Catalan clubs and beginning his senior career with Gramenet. Most of his early football was played in Spain’s lower divisions, with his most prolific spell producing 23 league goals across two seasons for Sant Rafel. He arrived in England in 2017 and combined restaurant work with playing for Heybridge Swifts, scoring 30 times in all competitions and earning a place in the Isthmian League Team of the Year.
Luque was one of the first project players we signed, but to me, he felt like a Peterborough signing, one with a big non-league presence, ready to step up. He did score for us in the League Cup, but his fitness never got to the level we needed and he was often spotted on the training ground on matchday, trying to get into shape.
Luque went on to play for several non-league clubs and was named National League South Player of the Year after helping Maidstone United win the title in 2021/22. Following spells with Worthing and AFC Totton, he announced his retirement in 2024 and returned to Spain.
