17: Grant Smith
Grant Smith spent his formative years with Reading, Fulham and Brighton and Hove Albion, but his route into senior football came through the non-league game. After spells with Bognor Regis Town, Hayes and Yeading United and Farnborough, he returned to Bognor and was named the supporters’ Player of the Year during a campaign which included an FA Trophy semi-final appearance. The goalkeeper then made more than 90 league appearances for Boreham Wood and represented England C before earning his move to Lincoln.
For a short while, he looked like a great signing. He was up against Josh Vickers for a starting spot and was probably one we felt was going to push on and make a big impression. He even briefly took the number one jersey, but a nightmare game against Stevenage and Ilias Chair was his last outing, and all that promise disappeared as he dropped out of the EFL.
Smith later played for Wealdstone, Chesterfield and Yeovil Town before joining Bromley in 2023. His two penalty saves in the 2024 National League play-off final helped Bromley reach the EFL for the first time, and he has remained their first-choice goalkeeper.
