4 – Jack Lester, 8 appearances, 7 goals

For me, Jack Lester is best known for the one he missed, but I suppose given he got seven in eight, that’s clutching at straws a bit. His Football League career began at Grimsby Town, where he came through the youth set-up and played from 1994 to 2000, including a short loan at Doncaster Rovers in 1996. Nottingham Forest signed him in 2000, Sheffield United followed in 2003, and Forest then brought him back for a second spell from 2004 to 2007. Chesterfield was where he became most strongly associated with goals and promotion success, staying from 2007 to 2013 before a short late return to playing with Gateshead.

We’re not his only victims He scored 11 against Stockport across 14 fixtures, and seven against Gillingham and Rotherham. six of his goals against us came in matches against Chesterfield, in 07/08 and 08/09. That included a hat trick as we lost 4-2 in 2007, but not a penalty in 2009/10, which his skied. Still, he rubbed salt in the wounds in 2014 as we lost 3-1 at Gateshead.
