Johnny Haynes is a Fulham legend, joining the club as a teenager and making his senior debut in the 1952–53 season. He stayed with them through 1970, playing across the Second Division and First Division eras and becoming the club’s great inside-forward figure. There were loan or later spells with Wimbledon, Toronto City, Durban City and Wealdstone, but in Football League terms, his career is essentially the story of Fulham. He was selected for three World Cups, 1954, 1958 and 1962, playing in two of those.

It’s not the worst player to have such a good record against us. He bagged four in our 4-2 defeat against them in September 1958, having already scored one a week earlier in the corresponding fixture. Those goals took him to ten after a brace in December 1957, one in March 1956 and one in both of our fixtures against them in 1953/54.
