Danny Mandroiu
Mandroiu was part of the issue on that cold day in 2023, and his reaction after the Kennedy comments certainly didn’t help the situation. He wasn’t the first to fall out with the manager, but he proved to be the last.
He finished the 2023/24 campaign with eight league goals, but it should have been nine, and maybe more. He missed a final-day penalty against Champions Portsmouth, and had he scored, we would have been in pole position for a play-off spot. Like Bishop, he left City that summer after negotiations over a new contract failed to reach an agreement.
He returned to Shamrock Rovers in August 2024, as Kennedy said he would, and committed to a new multi-year deal the following January, continuing his career in Ireland and European competition. A serious knee injury sustained in the 2025 FAI Cup final interrupted that second spell, and although he returned in July 2026, a subsequent hamstring problem brought another setback.
