Paul Mayo went on to establish himself under Keith Alexander before earning a move to Watford for £65,000 in March 2004. He made 25 league appearances for the Hornets and returned to Sincil Bank in 2005, adding another two seasons to his first spell and taking his combined league total for us to 163 appearances.

Notts County followed in 2007, along with a loan at Darlington and a move to Mansfield Town, before he dropped into non-league football with Corby Town, Gainsborough Trinity, Stamford and Boston United. He finished his playing career with Lincoln United in 2014 and also went on to work as a police officer with Lincolnshire Police.
