If you pardon the pun, Bett seemed like a fair bet as we snatched him from Coventry City in the years after the war. He’d played games for us during the hostilities, netting 36 times in 77 appearances.
He scored on his debut at Elland Road, and it seemed as if City had made the right call. Sadly, he only played 13 times in league and cup, and left in 1950 to join Spalding United.
