1955: Andy Graver, £14,000
With inflation: £328,066
Appearances: 15
It’s interesting that both of the strikers with 100+ goals were club record signings, but there is a nuance to the Graver deal: he had already hit 100 goals. Signed for £3000, he scored 106 league goals in 170 appearances before being sold for £27,500 to Leicester City, a club record for the Foxes.
He did not settle at Filbert Street, and was bought back for £14,000 in 1055, only to be sold to Stoke City for a ‘large fee’ thought to be around £12,000. He did return a third time, but his spell as our club record signing only brought 15 appearances and four goals.
